If it is at all possible you and your spouse should agree to as much as possible before seeing an attorney.  If both sides cannot agree and every decision get decided by legal action you can expect the costs to end up being hundreds of thousands of Rands.  I know it’s going to be really sad painful and stressful, but in an opposed divorce you are going to do the same thing on a much wider scale while sharing every humiliating detail of the end of your marriage with a room full of strangers.

If you can agree then seeing a single attorney together is going to be much cheaper and quicker than both of you having separate attorneys. Your attorney can help you through the process below or you can organise a lot of it before hand to speed things up
