Contrary to all the good jokes most lawyers are actually nice people. I’m an attorney specialising in family law, I created this site after I realised that most people don’t actually know a thing about South African law. So much “common knowledge” comes from bad American TV and usually isn’t even true in that country. I hope this site provides the basic facts most people should know and helps cut down on some of the dangerous and incorrect beliefs out there.
I’ve tried to be thorough while translating most of the law into simple English, but it is VERY important that you only use this site for general information gathering. The actual acts are large and weighty and the law is a subtle thing and can change drastically depending on the facts of your particular case. In other words you should ALWAYS speak to a qualified attorney before signing anything. I can’t stress that last point enough, this is not just legal “butt covering” a simple website cannot provide you with same guidance and insight that a competent attorney can.
